I have somehow missed this series, Things that Go! by Hubbell and her two illustrator accomplices. I LIKE IT.

Short, punchy, rhyming text means that you can chug through reading this aloud to a little kid. Extra illustrations and captions on almost every page will capture the attention of older kids. And grownups will groove on the collage art - cuts from old children's books are juxtaposed with nineteenth- and twentieth-century etchings of boats, people, animals, and equipment, and it's all colored and layered over textured backgrounds that look like wallpaper, like peeling paint, fabric or wood grain.
