Funny, alarming, great to look at - everything you expect from Steve Jenkins. My kids sat and made a list of Places Not to Go based on the habitats of the bad-tempered, venomous, sharp-featured, combative, paranoid, and/or fiercely territorial beasts of this book.
I mean, for example: why the hell is there a 2-inch-long caterpillar that can KILL a human? Where's the evolutionary advantage in that? On the other hand, the plots of many an action-adventure movie could be enhanced by the insertion of, for example, box jellyfish. Or a Humboldt squid. Do your reading, folks!
The cover bears special mention - confrontational and modern looking, it puts me in mind of the work of, oh, who was that woman with the red Helvetica statements against the black and white photographic images? Hm. Barbara Kruger.
My cousin sends this image - I'm guessing it's from a zoo in Japan.
Actually, my experience with monkeys indicates that they will poop on you if displeased, but I'm sure biting is another option.
